Our Purpose & Mission
The ultimate purpose of Byrd Grove Baptist Church is to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ who love Him, love others, and serve the world.
We are a church family united by the good news of the Gospel and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Our mission is not just to gather, but to actively live out our faith. We fulfill this purpose by dedicating ourselves to these five core values, drawn from the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).
The Five Pillars of Our Purpose
1. To Exalt the Savior (Worship)
We exist to give God the glory He deserves. Our primary purpose is to worship Him in spirit and in truth. This goes beyond a Sunday morning song. It is a lifestyle of honoring God in all we do. We gather weekly for passionate, collective worship, lifting our voices in praise, dedicating our hearts in prayer, and submitting to the authority of His Word. Our goal in worship is to encounter the living God and be transformed by His presence.
2. To Equip the Saints (Discipleship)
We are committed to helping every believer grow into spiritual maturity. We believe that saving faith is a faith that grows, and growth happens best through the intentional study of God's Word. Our purpose is to move people from being attendees to becoming fully devoted followers of Christ. We accomplish this through:
-
Biblical Preaching: Bold, practical, and relevant teaching from the Bible every Sunday.
-
Bible Study: In-depth classes (like Sunday School) and small groups that allow for discussion, questions, and personal application.
-
Mentorship: Encouraging believers to walk alongside one another, sharing wisdom and accountability.
3. To Evangelize the Lost (Evangelism)
We believe the message of Jesus Christ is the greatest news in the world, and it is too good to keep to ourselves. We are called to "go and make disciples," sharing the hope we have found in Him. Our purpose is to be a beacon of light in our community, actively seeking opportunities to share the Gospel with gentleness and respect. This includes:
-
Personal Witness: Empowering our members to be witnesses in their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods.
-
Community Outreach: Creating events and programs that serve our community and naturally open doors for spiritual conversations.
-
Global Missions: Supporting missionaries and ministries that are spreading the Gospel across the nation and around the world.
4. To Encourage the Family (Fellowship)
The Church is not a building; it is the family of God. We are called to love, support, and care for one another. Our purpose is to be a community of genuine, loving relationships where every person feels a sense of belonging. We bear one another’s burdens, pray for one another, and celebrate life's joys together. We are a safe space to be vulnerable, a supportive environment for healing, and a joyful place to call home.
5. To Extend a Hand (Ministry & Service)
We believe our faith must be put into action. As followers of Christ, we are called to be His hands and feet, serving others just as He served us. Our purpose is to demonstrate God's love through tangible acts of compassion and service. We strive to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those in our church and in our surrounding community. We encourage every member to discover their spiritual gifts and use them to build up the church and serve the world.
